Weekend in Sidi Bou
We went out for a
little neighborhood wandering today.
It has been rainy this past week,
but today was pretty nice all in all.
The weather here is a
lot like California --
cooler and rainy in the fall/
winter months,
but not really too cold.
This pic is at a "
ruin"
just a
quick walk from our house.
It used to be the site of a
church that St.
Augustine had been affiliated with.
Incredible view --
must have really been some church back in its day.
At the start of our outing,
we walked up to the Sidi Bou town area,
and while Derek got a
haircut,
Dust,
Eliot and I
had coffee at the Jewish coffee shop.
There is no sign,
but my Arabic instructors refer to it as "
the Jewish coffee shop"
and say the owner was Jewish.
Not sure if he still is the owner.
In any case,
it's
close to our house and has the cheapest,
good coffee in the ever tourist popular neighborhood.
We'
ve also learned the secret of ordering "
the direct"
which is identical to a
cappiccino (
also on the menu)
but one dinar cheaper. I
guess they figure only the locals know about the direct.
We passed by this crazy display on our way up the hill.
No doubt part of the festivities for tomorrow,
the anniversary of Tunisia's
bloodless coup.
Eliot was unimpressed.
Our second coffee shop stop at the top of the hill in Sidi Bou,
overlooking the water.
Boo enjoyed the view,
and attempts at standing on his own.

Eliot is always a
hit with the locals. I'm
not sure if it's
the blond hair,
the white round face,
or the fact that he is the cutest baby ever,
but in any case,
everyone always wants to hold him.
He in turn grabs their faces with both hands and laughs pretty loud.
This is at a
sweet shop near the house.
The ladies were pretty keen to hold him,
while we bought our mish mish (
apricot)
cookies.
You have to admitt that the pix of Derek and boo was strangly overlayed with Heathers DNA
