Tanzania Vacation

We just got back to Tunis after a great week vacation in Tanzania, where we were able to catch up with some great friends of ours, and tour around Tanzania a bit. We stayed with our friends, Joe, Betsy, Ellis, and Coach (Eliot's favorite canine pal) in Dar Es Salaam, and then the three of us took a side trip up to the Arusha and Kilimanjaro area.

We flew in and out of Kilimanjaro, but sadly, it was too cloudy both days to really see much of the mountain, and with Eliot in tow, climbing it was not an option or desire of ours.

We drove up to the entrance to Kilimanjaro, and off to the right of Derek you can sort of see the mountain's base rising up into the clouds. The temperature was SO nice and cool in the little villages on the moutain road up to the base of it.

We decided to go out to Arusha National Park, as it was a good "day trip" option to see some animals and scenery without too much trauma for the Boo.

Somewhere along this trip, Eliot decided he's in a "daddy is my favorite person in the world" phase. I'm slightly offended by this, because I am still the one that puts him to bed and changes his morning diaper, which is truly not a pleasant experience... After which, he trots over to daddy with a big grin!

This is my most dramatic "out of africa" pose. I can hear the theme song in my head....

The real beauty of Arusha National Park was that there were hardly any people there, the animals were fun to see, and the landscape was really beautiful. We'd really love to see the Serengeti if we're ever back without a bambino, but this was still a really marvelous experience.

Eliot didn't really participate in our "safari" day much, until the giraffe sightings. He was mesmerized!

Derek thought his fascination was partially in that he finally got to see where his giraffe Sophie's people are from. I don't know about that. I think he just had never seen such an enormous animal before.

One last look at Sophie's family....

And of course, after all the heat, Eliot's favorite spot was the pool!
