Eliot's First Earthquake

This morning Eliot reacted with shock to the biggest earthquake in DC history...

Okay, well in reality he slept through the whole 15 seconds of 3.6 magnitude terror. I know, I know, for those of you in California, this qualifies as little more than a night spasm. Nevertheless, Heather and I were in fact awoken by the event at 5:04 this morning. The whole thing went something like this:

Derek awakes to a rumbling sound and slight vibration. Heather exclaims: "Is the hot water heater exploding!!" Derek, in his annoyed, please don't bother me with trivial things before 7:00am voice, replies: "No, it's fine, go back to sleep." We do, and it's not until the morning news that we realize anything exciting happened. And let me tell you, the local news had extended coverage, pushing back Good Morning America by 30 minutes, so we could hear from the folks out in Leesburg talk about how little old Fufu was barking up a storm because "she sho did know something was afoot!"

Well, that's the story. Not quite as exciting as Kabul, when we wondered whether the swaying buildings were caused by stronger earthquakes in the foothills of the Hindu Kush, or instead by a nearby car-bombing or mortar attack. No, we're just fine and dandy knowing that the biggest thing little old Eliot has to worry about is whether Congress is in session. That and earthquakes.
